As a result, those very genetic resources that are needed for long term food security are still endangered today. For example, a reduced number of useful plant breeds and farm animal races hampers the adaptation to changing climate conditions. Another risk: the more intensely the individual species are cultivated, the more uncontrolled the varmints and diseases can spread.
